Iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia are highly prevalent conditions among women of reproductive age, particularly in those requiring surgical treatment. Both conditions significantly affect quality of life by impairing physical, intellectual, and emotional well-being. Appropriate management requires accurate diagnosis, identification of the underlying cause, and selection of a safe and effective iron therapy. Although oral iron remains the most commonly used treatment, its low bioavailability and frequent gastrointestinal adverse effects may limit adherence and effectiveness. In this context, intravenous iron, particularly ferric derisomaltose (FDI), represents a safe and effective alternative, allowing the administration of high doses in a single session while demonstrating an excellent safety profile, with a low risk of adverse reactions and hypophosphatemia.
