Abstract

Emerging infectious diseases such as dengue, malaria, tuberculosis, and the recently identified Oropouche virus are on the rise in Panama, driven by factors like human migration, social inequality, inadequate healthcare infrastructure, climate change, and weak epidemiological surveillance. Recent statistics reveal a significant surge in cases, particularly in areas like San Miguelito and Darién. The Ministry of Health faces serious challenges that demand strong policies and adequate funding, while the medical community must help by educating the public and promoting preventive health behaviors.
