The diagnosis of overlap syndrome involving systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is not easily established due to its clinical presentations and biochemical characteristics similar to those of lupus hepatitis.
The term overlap syndrome is generally used in the context of overlap of autoimmune hepatitis with primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) or primary biliary cholangitis (PBC). Few cases of AIH complicated with SLE have been reported in the literature, and the condition is even rarer in pediatric patients.
We present the case of a 12-year-old girl who initially consulted for jaundice associated with hepatitis. Through a multidisciplinary clinical approach and paraclinical and pathological examinations, the diagnosis of SLE associated with autoimmune hepatitis was established.
